About this event
The exhibition 'Contemporary Artist Project: Lee Wan, I Write,' produced by the Seoul Arts Center, reinterprets traditional Korean calligraphy in the language of contemporary art. Working from the brush and the ink, the artist Lee Wan combines characters, images, painting, and seal engraving to explore new possibilities for calligraphy. Rather than stopping at admiring beautiful writing, the exhibition poses the question 'why do we write,' showing how writing can become an art of expressing oneself. It is an exhibition where visitors can experience the new possibilities of calligraphy that emerge where tradition meets the contemporary.
