About this event
Republic of Korea Youth Day is a statutory commemorative day that grew out of a youth commemoration event proposed and led by the incorporated association Youth and Future. Since 2016, Youth and Future has held a Youth Day commemoration every September to widen social consensus for designating Youth Day a statutory commemorative day and to raise national attention to the rights and interests of youth, and since 2017 it has used the 'Republic of Korea Youth Day Festival' as the official name, developing the event into Korea's representative youth festival. On January 9, 2020, the Youth Basic Act, containing the designation of Youth Day, passed the National Assembly plenary session, and Youth Day was established as a statutory commemorative day on the third Saturday of each September. The festival is held to spread the meaning of Youth Day, widen youth participation in society, advance youth rights and interests, and bring youth culture to life. This year, marking the 10th Youth Day, the 10th Republic of Korea Youth Day Festival is held around Gwangalli in Busan, one of Korea's representative destinations. Running programs that span youth policy promotion, culture and the arts, employment and start-ups, performances, experiences, and the content industries, the festival brings youth and citizens into conversation through a rich array of content, including a K-POP concert, the University Song Festival, the Korea Youth Dream Gala Concert, the Youth Film Awards, the Korea Cheerleading Championship, and the Creator Awards, as Korea's representative youth festival.
