In Pohang, 'the city of fire and light,' the Pohang International Fire and Light Festival — the city's flagship cultural tourism festival — is held every year. Themed on 'light,' symbolizing Pohang as a world steel city, and 'fire,' symbolizing its blazing furnaces, the festival began in 2004 with a fireworks show commemorating Pohang Citizens' Day. It has since grown into an international-scale event, with renowned overseas fireworks teams joining every year. The festival content, too, has moved beyond simple 'fireworks,' evolving into a festival of harmony that unfolds in rich variety by fusing industry and culture through produced performances and light parades.
