9th Jeonju Grand Reading Festival

The 9th Jeonju Grand Reading Festival is Jeonju's flagship book festival, held under the vision 'Jeonju, the City That Reads and Writes' and the theme 'Run, Books.' This year's event runs for three days, Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, 2026, around the Jeonju Hanbyeok Culture Center and the Wanpanbon Culture Center. To make a festival that every generation enjoys together, it has strengthened generation-tailored content and, preparing for climate change, has built an eco-friendly, practice-based festival model — its key distinguishing features. Main programs: at the Hanbyeok Culture Center performance hall, the opening ceremony raises the curtain, followed by invited lectures and a fusion gugak performance. In the exhibition rooms, contests such as the 'Family Reading Golden Bell' invite family visitors to take part in person. The outdoor stage bursts with children's performances, taekwondo demonstrations and madang changgeuk (open-air traditional opera), while the seminar rooms of the Hyanggyo Culture Center host local-author talks, reading discussions, seminars and reading-related workshops for in-depth cultural experiences. Beyond these, a book market joined by local bookstores and publishers and varied experience booths line the Jeonju-cheondong-ro area, and citizen-participation exhibitions and the festival's special exhibitions open on the outdoor court, offering citizens abundant sights and enjoyments.
