Cheoinseong Cultural Festival

The Yongin Cultural Foundation holds the Cheoinseong Cultural Festival every year to commemorate the historic victory at Cheoinseong Fortress — where in 1232 Kim Yun-hu and the people of Cheoinbugok fought back together and repelled the second Mongol invasion — and to carry on the ancestors' spirit of national defense and community. Marking its 35th edition this year, the festival runs under the slogan 'The Battle Cry of Cheoin Awakens Today.' It is planned as a participatory historical and cultural festival where performances, exhibitions and experiences blend, so that citizens can understand the mettle and communal spirit of the ancestors, embodied in the victory at Cheoinseong, in an easier and friendlier way. The festival offers programs the whole family can enjoy together: a musical on the Battle of Cheoinseong, mounted martial arts performances and horseback riding, Goryeo-era costume experiences, pottery and craft workshops, and guided historical commentary on Cheoinseong. Colorful performing-arts stages, evening performances and fireworks unfold, with food trucks and varied eating spaces adding to the fun. A 'RE-BORN mission' also links the September Cheoinseong Cultural Festival with October's Poeun Cultural Festival, letting visitors enjoy both as one historical story. A meaningful autumn festival to encounter anew the history and culture of Yongin, following the mettle of Cheoin and the spirit of Poeun.
